Everyone experiences traumatic moments at some point in their life. However, these moments don't always appear as traumatic when they occur. The loss of loved ones, painful ends to relationships, significant illness, and more show us that our hearts place blame on someone for these hurts, even if it's ourselves. When we hold these hurts with unforgiveness, we bring damage to our spirits. This bitterness and blame can even hinder the healing work of the Holy Spirit in our lives.

Everyone handles hurts and traumas differently. Some can appear unaffected by monumental things and others can become very distraught over more insignificant circumstances. In this teaching, Steve recalls the story of Elijah and that throughout his story, we see the times that Elijah had reason to falter and when he encountered God's provision — yet, even this mighty man of God found a point that his heart failed.

It's after the great victory against the prophets of Baal that Elijah receives word that the queen is set on finding and killing him. Despite seeing God's hand on his life, Elijah allows her threat to let his spirit fail and set him running for his life.

We must acknowledge that out hurts can greatly affect our lives as well. Then realize that it takes a trust and submission to God for Him to do the work in us that brings about forgiveness, repentance, and renewed commitment to following Him and laying our whole life at His feet.
