Spiritual Hoarding — An Introduction
Spiritual hoarding doesn't happen overnight. It takes years of holding onto hurts, pride, selfishness, and other sin before the condition of our spiritual life is realized. We put on a good appearance for others, but inside we're broken and damaged. We are what Jesus calls white-washed tombs.
Holding on to this sin keeps us from living according to God's design. We even grow used to it being there and consider it home. But when God exposes it, we must repent or continue in the denial that leads to destruction.
Repentance restores us to God and allows him to work with us in renewing our minds and behavior away from the sin that we have hoarded. But if we are unwilling to repent, he will let us be crushed by what we have stored up. Because only then will we know that nothing we hold onto will sustain us except Jesus. And when we cling to him, he will supply for us every thing we need for life, for godliness, and to be ministers of the gospel of truth.
