In the midst of painful circumstances it is natural for us to want a "fix" to make life less painful. But God wants to deliver us from our darkness and provide us with something better.
In Exodus, the newly liberated Israelites left Egypt after 400 years of slavery. But, life in the wilderness dulled their faith in God's provision and goodness, they quickly longed to go back to slavery in Egypt. They kept their eyes on the past.
Bill calls us to focus on the promise and purpose of God instead of searching for certainty and predictability. In order for God to give us what's best, He has to teach us us to keep our eyes on Him. By removing or separating us from the things that we've trusted, He is inviting us to put our trust in His faithful character. When we do, we can have peace and joy in any circumstance because the great Deliverer is always with us and can bring unimaginable beauty from our ashes.
